Community, business, and education leaders need to recognize that the health care personnel shortage has broad implications in their cities, counties, and towns. They should collaborate with hospitals to develop a full health care worker pipeline. Several highly successful examples of the collaborative model are already in place in Washington state, although not in every community that supports a health care system. Local government leadership can be very effective in promoting solutions that work in a particular community.
